I love my family, I truly do. However, they like to eat places that aren't the healthiest place to eat. So we made the collective decision to go to Kimballs on Saturday.

Sometimes I just want to kick myself . . . like did I really have to go and why did I not ask for somewhere less fried food and sugary ice cream? The secret I guess is finding something that you can in fact eat. So, I was eating mostly just veggies and fruits this past week. Kimballs has a veggie burger - bland I know, but healthier than a greasy burger or a fried fish meal.
Anyway so I get this veggie burger and cut it up with lettuce and onions with a bit of ketchup (I know not the healthiest but it was really dry without it) and I look around at everything else around me. Burgers, Hot Dogs, Turkey Clubs, Bread. Bread. Bread.
Oh man - Did I mention I took the bread from my veggie burger and gave it to my almost 2 year old niece. So no bread for me. Eventually I was used to eating it. It wasn’t delicious but is also wasn’t drop dead gross. After being a good nugget . . . I made a mistake.
Kimballs has ice cream. Ice cream is really sugary. Sugar-Free Ice cream is not good for your stomach after not eating dairy at all for a week. I ending up getting sick. But overall I learned that it takes a lot of control in order to stay on track. I wish I hadn't caved but I did.
I guess what I learned from this startling experience, is how hard it is. I know I was going to have trouble with all these rules I am setting for myself, but I just was not prepared. Now I am. The trick I will utilize from here on out, is to pick places where I can get something that is healthy - and want to eat it.
